French's Mansion

El Solar de French

Located at Defensa 1062 in San Telmo.

Domingo French was born in this house; he fought in the English invasions of 1805. The mansion was built in 1762. The patio of this house was turned into a gallery with many small antique shops. Do not forget to visit the Market of Arts and Handcrafts on the first floor. You may choose to take the Subway Line C exit at Estacion San Juan.

San Lorenzo Passage

Pasaje de San Lorenzo

At Defensa 700, until the second half of the last century this Passage was the physical border of San Telmo, as there, it used to run a stream. Once entering this magical street you will see many examples of last century Argentina architecture. Curiously: at number 380, you'll find the Minute House, built around 1850 with a facade of only 2.30 meters and a tiny balcony in its upper floor. Also, at number 319 you will find the beautiful patios of San Telmo (patios with the workshops of artisans and artists). Take Subway Line C exit at Estacion Independencia.

San Telmo Market

This market was opened in 1897. It is important for its excellent iron structure with metal sheet and glass roof, being the last one operating in the city. Open everyday, it offers stands with beed and fresh fish, and antiques and work of art. Access through Subway Line C exit at Estacion San Juan.

Bar Sur

Located in one of San Telmo's houses, this bar/cafe is synonymy with tango and pioneer in night shows. It also offers exclusive food and picadas. Tip for film lovers: the movie Wong Kar-Wai "Happy Together" (1997) was filmed here. You may get there by Subway Line C exit at Estacion San Juan.

Lezama Park

It used to be the lands of Salteño trader Gregorio Lezama; its pond, fountains, and sculptures make the Park an attractive place to visit. Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 8pm there is a handcraft fair and live shows. At its side it is located the National Historical Museum. Access by Subway Line C exit at Estacion Constitucion.

Opening hours from March: Saturdays 10am to 1pm; Sundays 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Guided tours: Sundays at 4pm. The tour covers atrium, cloisters, excavations, sacristy, Sibyls collection, the temple and its altars, organ and Foundation Chapel.

It was built in 1734 by Jesuit architects (among them: Andres Bianchi, Juan Primoli and Jose Schmidt, as well as Antonio Masella). At first, it was called the Church of our Lady of Bethlehem and it was in 1806 that it was named after the patron saint of sailors, San Pedro Gonzales Telmo Parish Church. There is a marble table in the sacristy that Bethlehemites would use for operations. This order run the church from 1800 to 1822. They used to live in a building across from the church, where the first School of Medicine was opened, and they attended the sick and wounded during the English Invasions and the epidemic outbreaks.

The Sibyls are a collection of 12 oil paintings dating back to the XVIII century influenced by a Cuzco art school and they are a unique piece in Argentina. In 2005, they were restored and and they are tart of the church's historic and artistic legacy.

A fantastic place: located in front of the Lezama Park, this building, Muscovite style of the 17th. Century, represents one of the city's most attractive and distinguished constructions. During the services the chorus sings Orthodox litugy music. Women can access wearing skirts. Take Subway Line C exit at Estacion Constitucion.

The old port of Buenos Aires, renewed and improved, is now one of the most selected and visited areas by the tourists. You find elegant restaurants, all of them with river view, and a perfect boulevard for lovers. It also has a huge movie complex. Located in Puerto Madero, the Woman Bridge is a modern bridge, according to its author, Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and represents a couple tangoing. Monumental Tower

Commonly called English Tower, was donated by the British residents to commemorate the 100th. anniversary of the May Revolution 1810. It has 60 mts. height, and a combination of red bricks and curved stones. The structurer is located on a plinth with four steps at each side and outlets in their corners. Avenida de Mayo (May Avenue)

One of Buenos Aires' most beautiful streets. It links the Pink House with the Congress. Ideal for walking through during day and/or night. This avenue is an exclusive area of the Spanish community and testimony of Buenos Aires of the beginning of the 20th. Century. It also gathered the most important hotels of that time, many cafes, among them the Tortoni (Art Nouveau) where the most important Porteño artists got together; and theaters like the "Avenida". This square (it includes many historical buildings) is known for being a historical place where there are guided visits to go under the tunnels built by the Jesuits in the 18th. Century. Casa Rosada

Located in front of May Square, this is the Seat of the National Government. This pink color has nothing to do with a pro-gay tendency, but to the decision of former President Sarmiento, who in 1873 ordered to paint it that color symbolizing the union between two political parties, the Federal (represented by the red) and the Unitarian (represented by the white). Inside there is a museum where we find many articles belonging to the different presidents of Argentina.
