It was built in 1734 by Jesuit architects (among them: Andres Bianchi, Juan Primoli and Jose Schmidt, as well as Antonio Masella). At first, it was called the Church of our Lady of Bethlehem and it was in 1806 that it was named after the patron saint of sailors, San Pedro Gonzales Telmo Parish Church. There is a marble table in the sacristy that Bethlehemites would use for operations. This order run the church from 1800 to 1822. They used to live in a building across from the church, where the first School of Medicine was opened, and they attended the sick and wounded during the English Invasions and the epidemic outbreaks.

The Sibyls are a collection of 12 oil paintings dating back to the XVIII century influenced by a Cuzco art school and they are a unique piece in Argentina. In 2005, they were restored and and they are tart of the church's historic and artistic legacy.

The most important wine regions of the country are located in the provinces of Mendoza and San Juan and La Rioja. Salta, Catamarca, Río Negro and more recently Southern Buenos Aires are also wine producing regions. The Mendoza province produces more than 60% of the Argentine wine and is the source of an even higher percentage of the total exports. Due to the high altitude and low humidity of the main wine producing regions, Argentine vineyards rarely face the problems of insects, fungi, molds and other grape diseases that affect vineyards in other countries. In most alfajores there are two layers of cake, and a filling in between.

In South America alfajor is found most notably in Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Perú. Mausoleum of General San Martín

In 1880, the remains of General José de San Martín were brought from France and placed in a mausoleum, reachable from the right aisle of the church. The mausoleum was specially designed by French sculptor Albert Carrier-Belleuse, with marble of various colours. The black sarcophagh is guarded by three life-size female figures that represent Argentina, Chile and Peru, three of the regions freed by the General. The mausoleum also has the remains of Generals Juan Gregorio de las Heras and Tomás Guido, as well as those of the Unknown Soldier of the Independence.

CITY ZOO
It offers a great variety of animal species, an aquarium, a farm and a reproduction of the rainforest habitat.

BOTANIC GARDEN
It has been inaugurated on September 7, 1898, and occupies more than six hectares. The garden comprises about 5500 shrub species, arboreal species and herbaceous species. Additionally, there are several gardens of style and five greenhouses. Due to the design, order and botanic contents, it can be widely differentiated from the rest of the Buenos Aires city gardens.
